Dr Dash Newington is a consultant anaesthetist with special interest and experience in paediatric anaesthesia, paediatric cardiac anaesthesia, and obstetric anaesthesia, and interest in patients with perioperative anxiety.

She sees patients calmy and safely through their perioperative journey and strives to ensure that people living in rural and regional areas have access to high-quality anaesthetic and surgical services.

As part of the Wide Bay Anaesthesia Specialists team, Dr Newington works at the Bundaberg Base Hospital. She trained in Launceston and Brisbane, including completing an additional term in paediatric intensive care and retrieval medicine at the Queensland Children's Hospital.

Dr Newington undertook a fellowship in paediatric cardiac anaesthesia and intensive care at Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK. After finishing this fellowship, she worked as a specialist in paediatric anaesthesia and paediatric cardiac anaesthesia in the National Health System (NHS).

She has undertaken charity trips to Kenya and India, providing anaesthesia for children requiring heart surgery in countries and cities where this would not otherwise be available. She has also worked in many rural and regional hospitals throughout Australia.

Dr Newington achieved a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAppSc) at the Australian College of Applied Psychology in 2008. She followed this with a Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Sydney in 2012.

She has achieved three Master degrees – a Master of Medicine in Perioperative Medicine (MMed) at Monash University in 2015, a Master of Science in Patient Safety (MSc) at Imperial College London in 2018, and a Master of Clinical Ultrasound (MClinUS) at the University of Melbourne in 2019.

She also completed an Advanced Certificate in Clinical Education (AdvCertClinEd) at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2019.

Dr Newington is currently finishing a Master of Studies in Practical Ethics (MSt) at the University of Oxford.

She has been awarded the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland Annual Scientific Prize for her work in neonates undergoing cardiac surgery.

In her free time, she enjoys participating in competitive sports and pursuing her interest in native Australian animals.
